2009 Hamilton Ventura XXL Automatic Watch

It was only a matter of time before Hamilton decided it was time for a real rehash of the classic Ventura watch. This is not to be confused with now defunct Ventura watches. The Ventura watch model from Hamilton first came out in the age of pre-quartz electronic watches. When "electronic" watches meant something futuristic and exotic. It was the spacey look of the watch that really mattered though. At the time, it was really "out there." Shaped like a shield on its side - many with the popular two-tone leather strap - the Ventura has been in production for over 50 years.

It is funny that only more recently have the watches become mechanical. The 50th anniversary Hamilton Ventura sported a partially skeletonized face and ETA 2824-2 automatic mechanical movement. The Ventura has screen time in at least one film. It was worn by the heroes in the Men in Black movies, going along with the retro space-age theme. Over 50 years, very little changed with the look of the Ventura case itself, which is a good or bad thing depending on who you are. Well now, in 2009, Hamilton is releasing the first really new Ventura, in a long, long time.
At Basel next month we will see the new Hamilton Ventura XXL Automatic watch. A serious update on the styling makes it a true Ventura watch only to serious enthusiasts. New comers to the model might not even associate it with the original iconic watch design. The watch gets some needed refinement and updating. Notable are the smoother integration between the lug structure and the strap, as well and the more angular look of the case and face. Still, smooth curves define much of the surface, but don't make up the shape itself. The crown itself is integrated - Cartier Roadster style - into the case and crystal (which looks to have some curvature). The case is made of steel with an Anthracite PVD color coating. Size is up to 42mm wide, and taller still - hence the XXL name in the watch. Regardless, the watch is not huge, just larger than the original that was maybe 35-36mm wide. Right not at least, only a rubber strap will be offered. I hope to see a return to the two-tone contrasting strap look soon.

With a textured dial, more aggressive looks, and arguably similar avant grade nature, it takes the look a bit upmarket and make it relevant again. I think that other more interesting watches in the recent years have overshadowed potential interest in the classic Ventura watch. I think it was a good idea for Hamilton to focus on its heritage line. Inside the watch will again be an automatic ETA 2824-2 movement like the 50th Anniversary Ventura model. I expect prices to be between $1000 - $2000.

"Glow" Preparation Advice !!!

Tips BEFORE You Go to Glow !!

Keep these in mind.

  • Wear the right clothes. You have no idea how many times I have heard of people (usually guys) not getting into clubs because they were wearing the wrong shoes. Classy night clubs want to maintain a classy clientele. They do so by raising their standards slightly.
  • Take a shower before you go out. I don't care if you took one that morning, take another one!
  • Wear deodorant and/or antiperspirant. I know, I know, this sounds obvious but guys who sweat a lot are usually clueless about what to do about it. One of the grossest things you can encounter on a dance floor is someone dancing like crazy and then stinking it up from sweating. Antiperspirant will soak up the sweat. I highly recommend spending more than a few bucks on this. Get designer antiperspirant like Ralph Lauren or Hugo Boss which will soak up the sweat and you will still smell great!
  • Brush your teeth. I'm serious... some people just don't get personal hygiene.
  • Buy a pack of gum, breath mints, breath strips, or mint sprays to freshen your mouth.
  • Put condoms in your pocket or jacket.
  • Make sure you have large bills. Nightclubs are frequently loud, making it hard to hear a barmaid or bartender tell how much you owe for your drinks. It's easier to just hand over a Rs.00 bill and figure out how much you paid when you get your change. You may want to clarify it at that point.
  • On a similar note, count your change. Some barmaids take advantage of drunken patrons by short-changing them. I know of clubs where barmaids at different bars within the same club charge different prices. That's because they try to suck out an extra buck or two from unsuspecting clubbers.
  • Charge your cell phone and make sure you have your fellow clubbers numbers in memory.
  • Bring some business cards (or leave them at home!).
  • Expect that a club will want an entrance fee paid in cash and have credit cards ready to order drinks.

Here's some more news for my lovely friends : Constantly bumping into women on the dancefloor is NOT gonna get them interested in you. It will annoy them more than anything else. If you want to get someone's attention while dancing, LEARN TO DANCE! At least then you can dance to the rhythm they are following. Don't bump and grind with women who are not interested in doing so

Another approach is to make eye contact, reach out and shake their hand while introducing yourself during a time when not a lot of movement is going on. If you bother women too much, they could complain and possibly get you thrown out.

Bentley Continental Supersports Unveiled

H
ere's a new addition to the world of luxury supercars, the brand new Bentley Continental Supersports. Featuring a 6.0-liter W12 engine proficient at punching out 630hp, this new baby is able to get from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds. Sadly, due to safety regulations, this new Bentley is electronically limited to 329km/h (204mph). But even if you can't impress your buddies or the ladies with your limited speed, dark-smoked grilles, window surrounds, 20-inch alloy wheels, and lamp bezels should get some good hormones flowing. As well as all those goodies, the increase in engine power brought with it a new cooling system that included large and very stylish vertical intakes and twin bonnet vents. Other features include a 'Physical Vapor Deposition' process applied to all stainless style components to give the supercar a lustrous and highly resilient finish.

Within the interior, first-class leather from the nicest and most luxurious cows was is used in contrast with carbon fiber panels substituting the tradition wood finish. Unfortunately, instead of 3 unreasonably tight back seats for the more anorexic of your girlfriends, only 2 front seats exist for weight-reduction purposes; which greatly decreases your ability to transport your whole possy to your crib.

But it doesn't stop there! Continental Supersports has a new feature that allows it to run on either petrol and E85 biofule or a combination of the two. Also, 110kg of weight saving procedures have been given to this new Bentley, which makes me think... WTF? Since when are supercars designed by environmentally conscious supercar engineers. I want a supercar with lazerbeams and chainsaws on the side so I can carve racetracks through forests instead of a green-machine.

This new Bentley is full of surprises that hopefully won't cause PetroSexuals to turn into BioSexuals or ElectroSexuals.

From the introduction:
"Some of you may be rolling your eyes right now; all computers use the file and folder concept and some sort of colorful user interface, so there couldn’t be that much difference between Mac OS X and its competitors, right? Wrong. I don’t just say this because of some blind devotion to all things Apple; I’ve actually used different flavors of Windows and Linux for more than 13 years, right alongside my trusty Mac, so experience has been my teacher. If I have any devotion to Apple, there are plenty of good reasons why, the subject of this book being the first. Readers of this book who are already Mac users understand exactly what I’m talking about. For those of you moving from other
computing platforms, it’s my desire that by the end of this book you will have a whole new perspective on computing and see what it means to really have fun while working with your computer. In Mac OS X Leopard Portable Genius you can learn not just the basics, but the subtle nuances and little tips and tricks that make using your Mac that much easier. I’ve covered the gamut, from printing files, surfing the Internet and using e-mail, to partitioning your hard drive, automating repetitive tasks, and using UNIX commands, with just a little bit of geeky humor thrown in for good measure. I hope this book will do justice to Mac OS X Leopard, which isn’t just a computer operating system; it’s an art form."
